Rafael Lopez Joins Accenture's Health & Public Service Practice as Managing Director

Rafael Lopez, a former division commissioner at the Department of Health and Human Services, has been named managing director of Accenture‘s (NYSE: ACN) health and public service practice in North America.

Accenture said Tuesday Lopez will help develop strategy and offerings across the company’s child support, child welfare, public assistance and public health practices in his new role.

“Rafael Lopez is focused on improving the lives of children and families in need and brings deep experience from serving local, state and national programs,” said Ryan Oakes, managing director of Accenture’s public health and human services practice in North America.

Lopez joined HHS in 2015 as commissioner of the department’s administration on children, youth and families.

He previously served as senior policy adviser at the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy and as an associate director at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, a nonprofit organization that offers educational, health economic, social services for at-risk children.

Lopez also worked as president and CEO of The Family League of Baltimore City; executive director of Los Angeles’ Commission for Children, Youth and Their Families; and deputy director of San Francisco’s Department of Children, Youth and Their Families.

He was also the senior deputy of health and human services for Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina and a fellow at Stanford University’s Center for Social Innovation.
