LaVerne Council, former chief information officer and assistant secretary for information and technology at the Department of Veterans Affairs, has been appointed to serve as senior vice president and general manager of Mitre‘s Center for Connected Government beginning April 3.
The nonprofit research company said Monday Council will oversee CCG’s federal civilian strategy and customer engagements in her new role.
CCG is comprised of four Mitre-operated federally funded research and development centers that include the Center for Enterprise Modernization, Homeland Security Systems Engineering and Development Institute, Judiciary Engineering and Modernization Center and CMS Alliance to Modernize Healthcare.
“LaVerne brings considerable experience and knowledge in strategic thinking, strategy development and execution, and global business operations, as well as a deep commitment to public service,” said Mitre President and CEO Jason Providakes.
Council previously managed VA’s $4 billion information technology budget as well as supervised the daily activities of more than 16,000 personnel and contractors as department CIO.
She served as CEO of Council Advisory Services and chair of the national board of trustees for nonprofit organization March of Dimes.
Council also held the roles of corporate vice president and global CIO at Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ), global VP for IT, worldwide business solutions and development services at Dell Inc. and global supply chain partner at Ernst & Young.
