Executive Mosaic’s GovCon Index traded lower Wednesday on declines by services-oriented contractors as U.S. stocks traded in narrow range with financial shares the main laggards and crude oil prices again a focal point of investor attention.GovCon Index gainers outnumbered decliners by a 4-to-1 ratio as three of its 11 S&P 500 components closed green with pharmaceutical services provider and co-listed company McKesson Corp. (NYSE: MCK) the GCI’s overall top net performer.
Government services companies CACI International (NYSE: CACI) and S&P-500 listed CSRA (NYSE: CSRA) ended as the GCI’s two largest net decliners by at least $2.00 each.
GCI stocks down by more than $1.00 included Boeing (NYSE: BA), Engility Holdings (NYSE: EGL), AECOM (NYSE: ACM), ManTech International (Nasdaq: MANT), Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC) and Cubic Corp. (NYSE: CUB).
Falls Church, Va.-based CSRA lowered its full-year sales guidance range after markets closed Tuesday with second quarter earnings above analysts’ expectations and revenue in-line.
McKesson closed just shy of a $1.00 gain despite the S&P healthcare index’s nominal decline of 0.14 percent.
Crude oil futures settled up 26 cents to $52.43 a barrel after the U.S. stockpile for last week rose to a level short of trader expectations as gasoline stocks decreased, Reuters reported.
Financial stocks tumbled 1 percent to lead four major S&P sectors lower with real estate the best performer among the remaining seven.
