Michael Lempke
Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) has named Michael Lempke, previous Systems, Planning and Analysis vice president of integrated strategic decision support, as vice president of the Newport News Shipbuilding division’s energy programs.
Lempke will succeed Pete Diakun, who will retire at the end of 2016, and oversee the shipyard’s energy programs strategy, HII said Tuesday.
“Michael brings a wealth of experience that equips him to make an immediate and positive impact to our commercial and DOE energy business, ” said Matt Mulherin, Newport News Shipbuilding president.
Lempke has worked in executive acquisitions and operations for both the public and private sectors and has held a number of senior management positions in different agencies, including the National Nuclear Security Administration, Energy Department, the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program and the U.S. Navy.
He will join Newport News Shipbuilding as its incumbent energy programs VP is set to retire after more than 30 years of service.
“Pete™s accomplishments during his tenure have led to many research and technology innovations in our ship programs, ” Mulherin said.
