The Department of State has approved the proposed foreign military sale of AIM-9X Block II Tactical Missiles and related equipment to Norway for $370.9 million. RTX will serve as the principal contractor for the transaction, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.
Weapon Sale to Norway
According to the DCSA, the Norwegian government requested to purchase 300 AIM-9X Block II Sidewinder missiles, two special air training missiles, 24 captive air training missiles, 40 guidance units, dummy air training missiles, and spare and repair parts. Oslo also intends to buy training, transportation, engineering, technical, and logistical services.
The State Department determined that the sale will improve Norway’s capability to meet current and future threats. The missile will enable Norwegian aviation forces to become interoperable with U.S. and NATO allies.
AIM-9X Block II Tactical Missiles are capable of air-to-air engagements and can be launched from surface platforms to respond to threats. The weapon is designed to be easily installed on various military aircraft, including F-16 Fighting Falcon, F/A-18 Super Hornet, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and E/A-18G Growler.
