What Is DHS Procuring Under the Databricks BPA?
According to a notice posted Thursday on the Acquisition Planning Forecast System, DHS intends to award a firm-fixed-price BPA to renew and expand its Databricks licenses and associated services.
How Does the Databricks Platform Support DHS Operations?
The Databricks platform serves as the foundation of DHS’ enterprise data fabric, providing a scalable lakehouse environment for analytics, reporting and artificial intelligence initiatives. It enables secure data sharing within and across agencies.
The platform is used by multiple DHS components, including U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Customs and Border Protection, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
What Are the Details of the Databricks BPA?
The department plans to award the BPA during the third quarter of fiscal year 2026, with the solicitation expected to be released on March 31. The contract is scheduled for completion on April 16, 2031, and carries an estimated value exceeding $100 million. Work will be performed in Springfield, Virginia.
Broader DHS Modernization Effort
The planned Databricks BPA aligns with an even more expansive cloud strategy currently underway at DHS. The agency announced in January that it is planning a department-wide Cumulus cloud initiative to streamline how its components buy and manage commercial cloud services. The effort will cover a broad range of anything-as-a-service offerings, including infrastructure, platform and software, along with professional support, cloud marketplace access and training.
