Brian Abrahamson Named MITRE Senior VP, Chief Operating Officer

Brian Abrahamson, a 30-year industry veteran, has been appointed senior vice president and chief operating officer at MITRE.

The not-for-profit research and development organization said Monday Abrahamson will oversee strategies to enhance MITRE’s operational capabilities, ensuring the delivery of essential government missions. The new COO will work closely with cross-company teams to boost end-to-end operations supporting the company’s federally funded research and development centers. In addition, Abrahamson will manage functional areas, including corporate strategy, enterprise technology, corporate real estate, enterprise communications and global security.

Abrahamson’s Career History

The new MITRE executive spent the previous 13 years at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He was most recently the chief digital officer and associate laboratory director, in charge of the teams tasked with establishing PNNL as a standard of operational performance in the field of research. He initially served as the national laboratory’s chief information officer for nine years.

Abrahamson also held the CIO, chief architect, and senior director positions at the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, where he worked for six years. Before that, he was part of the management consulting team at Accenture from 1997 to 2006 and a systems engineer at Itron from 1995 to 1997.
