BWX Technologies, a manufacturing and engineering firm specializing in nuclear services, has been awarded a $2.1 billion contract by the U.S. Navy for the procurement of nuclear reactor components for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
BWXT Nuclear Reactor Component Contract
The Lynchburg, Virginia-based company said Wednesday it will manufacture Naval nuclear reactor components for the Columbia and Virginia class submarines. BWXT will also provide reactor components for the Ford class aircraft carriers.
The project will be conducted at BWXT Nuclear Operations Group facilities in Barberton and Euclid, Ohio and Mount Vernon, Indiana. The contract has a seven-year period of performance that started in 2023.
Fuel Production Contract
BWXT was previously awarded a two-year, $300 million fuel contract in October 2023. Under the agreement, the company’s subsidiary, Nuclear Fuel Services, will produce and supply nuclear reactor fuel and support services to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, particularly for the Navy’s Ohio, Virginia, Seawolf, Columbia and Los Angeles class submarines, as well as the Nimitz and Ford class aircraft carriers.
