The Virginia-headquartered nuclear and metal components provider said Monday the purchase of AOT will strengthen its capacity to develop products for commercial, military and space customers. The transaction is expected to close before the end of 2024.
BWXT Growth Strategy
According to Rex Geveden, president and CEO of BWXT, the acquisition of AOT is a significant step in the Lynchburg, Virginia-based company’s growth strategy.
“The combination of technical expertise and talent at this dynamic organization makes us confident that this acquisition will create greater opportunities for our company and will further enhance our value to BWXT’s customers,” he said.
Ken Bedingfield, chief financial officer at L3Harris, added that the transaction is in line with the defense contractor’s multi-year strategy to optimize its portfolio and operations.
What L3Harris’ AOT Does
AOT provides metal components used in defense, aerospace and commercial technologies. According to L3Harris, the subsidiary is the sole supplier of uranium to the U.S. government.
The business also produces aluminum, copper, molybdenum, nickel, rhenium, tantalum, titanium, metal-matrix composites, metal-polymer composites, reactive materials and custom alloys.
In 2023, AOT secured a $75 million contract from the U.S. Army to manufacture M829A4M 120mm kinetic energy round components for use on the M1 Abrams main battle tank.
