The prestigious Wash100 Award is bestowed upon the top 100 executives of consequence working in the U.S. federal government and government contracting sectors each year. Winners are chosen not only for their proven success and achievements in the past year, but also for their potential to positively impact important federal missions in the coming year.

“I am continually excited to lead such an incredible team at Peraton,” Shea told Executive Mosaic. “Every day, these people live our values by doing the can’t be done to serve great missions of consequence. This award reflects the hard work and dedication of all of our employees who have truly created a next-generation national security company.”

Commenting on Shea’s win, Executive Mosaic CEO and Wash100 Award Founder Jim Garrettson said, “Stu Shea is, by himself, a recognizable brand and a longstanding executive fixture in the GovCon and intelligence communities. His depth of knowledge and unmatched number of consequential executive relationships in both industry and agencies alike reverberates to the benefit of Peraton and the country itself.”

“Stu’s keen attention to emerging technologies and his uncanny knack for integration, combined with his proven understanding of industry challenges, make him an essential force shaping GovCon for decades. Specifically, Stu played the instrumental role in shaping Peraton from four major companies (Peraton, Northrop, Perspecta and L3Harris) into one of GovCon’s most powerful mission capability integrators, and now, he continues to steer the company to new heights. We’re proud to recognize Stu’s innovation and reliability as an obvious Wash100 winner,” Garrettson added.

Shea has been at the helm of Peraton, a portfolio company of Veritas Capital, for more than six years, and he serves as the driving force shaping the company and spearheading multiple major integrations. He notably led Peraton through an integration with Perspecta and Northrop Grumman’s information technology and mission support services business in 2021.

In an exclusive video interview with Executive Mosaic, Shea applauded the enterprise’s speedy integration and said, “Most companies would take 18 months to integrate what we’ve done in seven.”

Under Shea’s leadership in 2023, Peraton secured a number of major space and intelligence contracts. The company announced in June that it booked a $284 million contract with the Defense Intelligence Agency. Under the contract, Peraton is supporting the Missile and Space Intelligence Center’s authoritative foreign threat analysis and assessment capabilities.

The company also won key contracts with NASA. In June, Peraton said it won a $330.3 million contract to support NASA’s suborbital flight operations at Wallops Flight Facility. Then in August, the company announced it secured a $513.5 million subcontract to support the maintenance and operation of communications systems for NASA’s Deep Space Network Program.

Additionally, Peraton secured spots on a number of billion-dollar contract vehicles under Shea’s guidance in 2023. At the start of last year, Peraton won a $2.25 billion contract to continue its background investigation field work services for the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency. In June, the company announced that it won a potential 11-year, $1 billion contract to help the Department of the Interior manage the acquisition of secure cloud services.

In November, Peraton announced it won a potential eight-year, $2.8 billion contract with the U.S. Special Operations Command to provide enterprise operations and maintenance services. Continuing its support to the U.S. military, Peraton landed an $889 million contract to help the U.S. Army Cyber Command integrate and conduct cyber, electromagnetic warfare and information operations.

In addition to his role at the head of Peraton, Shea also serves as a commissioner on the Atlantic Council’s Commission on Software Defined Warfare. Earlier in his career, Shea was the principal architect in the creation of Leidos, where he served as president and chief operating officer.

Executive Mosaic extends its most sincere congratulations to Stu Shea and to Peraton for their inclusion in the Wash100 Class of 2024.
