State Department Clears Italy’s $400M FMS Request for HIMARS Launchers

The State Department has approved a potential $400 million foreign military sale of high mobility artillery rocket system launchers and related equipment to the government of Italy.

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) will serve as the principal contractor on the proposed FMS deal that includes the provision of 21 M142 HIMARS launchers and one M31A2 high-explosive unitary warhead, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.

Italy also requested multi-channel tactical radio installation kits, launcher and weapons control units, communications equipment, laptop computers, tool kits, test sets and spare and repair parts.

DSCA noted that the requested equipment will enable Italy to strengthen its homeland defense and boost interoperability with U.S. and allied forces.

The European country requires the deployment of 10 government and 10 contractor representatives to support program management reviews and equipment training.
