Arcfield Closes Orion Space Solutions Acquisition; Geoff Crowley Quoted

Chantilly, Virginia-based government technology company Arcfield has finalized its purchase of Orion Space Solutions as part of efforts to expand its space exploration and hypersonic detection and tracking capabilities in support of intelligence community and Department of Defense agency customers.

Established in 2005, Colorado-based Orion is focused on designing, producing and integrating SmallSat and CubeSat spacecraft, sensors, data products and computational models for ground and space network domains, Arcfield said Wednesday.

Orion CEO Geoff Crowley said the company has been developing space-based platforms in support of intelligence and national security missions for nearly 20 years and the transaction will enable Orion to broaden its key capabilities and develop space-based technologies for clients.

Crowley will oversee space research and development efforts as chief scientist at Arcfield.

Orion will operate as Arcfield’s fourth business sector led by Chad Fish, who will serve as president and general manager.

Latham & Watkins and Covington & Burling served as legal advisers to Arcfield in the transaction.

The Forbes M&A Group acted as an adviser to Orion, which was represented by The Vaughn Law Offices and Dentons Durham Jones Pinegar in the deal.
