Raytheon Secures $621M Contract to Support MDA Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle

Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX) will maintain kinetic-force weapon systems for the Missile Defense Agency under a potential five-year, $621.4 million contract.

The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract comprises personnel, facilities and equipment support for the maintenance of exoatmospheric kill vehicles, the Department of Defense said Thursday.

MDA is issuing an $84.3 million initial delivery order through the IDIQ award.

Raytheon and its subcontractor, Aerojet Rocketdyne (NYSE: AJRD), developed the EKV as an interceptor component of the U.S. Ground-Based Midcourse Defense, an anti-ballistic missile system designed to intercept warheads in space.

Under the terms of the IDIQ, Raytheon will be responsible for the maintenance of EKV equipment, facilities, and the team that will transport and work on the system and its configurations. The personnel will conduct testing, upgrading and repairs on the missile component.

The agency is obligating $16.3 million in research, development, test and evaluation funds for fiscal year 2023. Contract work will take place in Tucson, Arizona.
