DOD Embraces AI Bot Innovation to Modernize Contracting Process

The Department of Defense’s Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office has embarked on a project to develop and test an AI application to help agency users simplify contract writing and acquisition processes, Federal News Network reported Thursday.

Efforts to build the Acqbot contracting platform are part of CDAO’s Tradewind – a funding and development initiative focused on AI, machine learning, data analytics and digital tools.

Bonnie Evangelista, the Tradewind execution lead within CDAO, said Acqbot is a working generative AI prototype that is not intended to make contracting decisions autonomously and DOD is looking to train the model to support problem statement formulation.

Evangelista added that a human operator reviews and validates the content generated by the AI tool.

CDAO plans to gather feedback to validate system accuracy and functionality.
