Tim Bock, Dell public alliance manager at Dell Technologies (NYSE: DVMT) Virtustream subsidiary, has said agencies seeking to migrate resources and workloads to the cloud should move their focus from infrastructure to functionality and applications through holistic evaluation of app portfolios.
Bock wrote that conducting such an assessment could help agencies understand the interdependencies and know what resources must move and when and provide insights that they can use to identify the type of cloud platform to adopt.
He noted that agencies must decide whether to purchase or develop applications and ensure that cloud service providers will implement on-premises security protocols once they move to a cloud environment.
Agencies must have the right tools in place to extend their on premises implementation into that cloud infrastructure because agencies retain responsibility for the overall security paradigm even in the cloud, he added.
Bock also called on agencies to assess performance requirements and technical needs as they migrate to a cloud platform.
