The Department of Veterans Affairs is conducting market research on commercially available robotic process automation technologies that can help streamline clinical document processing functions for electronic health records systems.
VA issued a solicitation on the beta SAM website on Wednesday in an effort to identify RPA-driven managed services software with the capacity to eliminate backlog, reduce the number of manual tasks and increase traceability and quality for the department’s existing VistA and Cerner (Nasdaq: CERN) Millennium-based EHR systems.
The department said in its request for information that proposed technologies must be able to simplify document scanning procedures, provide access to external medical data sources and automatically correct errors or provide missing information in documents.
RPA offerings must additionally be compatible with VA applications and other “authoritative data sources containing pertinent information," according to the notice.
VA also intends to solicit contractor end-user training and software licensing services as part of the agreement.
