Unisys (NYSE: UIS) has won a potential eight-year $232 million contract from the Agriculture Department to continue to update applications and provide software development and maintenance services for USDA™s rural development agency.
USDA made the award through the National Institutes of Health‘s Chief Information Officer-Solutions and Partners 3 contract vehicle in support of the rural development agency™s Comprehensive Loan Program and other initiatives that offer financial assistance to businesses and citizens in U.S. rural areas, Unisys said Thursday.
Casey Coleman, vice president of the federal civilian business group at Unisys, said the company will work to help the USDA agency build and maintain software platforms designed to administer grants and loans for rural America.
The contract, which was awarded through a competitive bidding process, has a base term of one year and seven one-year options and covers web services that seek to safeguard program participants™ personal data.
Unisys said it will work to integrate projects with the USDA rural development agency™s cloud-based systems through the use of Amazon Web Services-based (Nasdaq: AMZN) DevOps model.
USDA™s rural development agency oversees a loans portfolio worth approximately $212 billion and will disburse $38 billion in loans, grants and loan guarantees in fiscal year 2016 through its programs.
