Tony Frazier, executive vice president of global field operations at Maxar Technologies (NYSE: MAXR) and a four-time Wash100 award winner, said the company is “investing heavily” in its next-generation satellite constellation designed to collect satellite imagery, Inside Defense reported Thursday.
"We are through the bulk of the build of what we're calling our WorldView Legion," Frazier told the publication in an interview. He added that the company plans to perform two launches in 2021.
He mentioned the company’s efforts to realign its capital structure, including the sale of MDA. Maxar announced in late December that a consortium led by Toronto-based private investment firm Northern Private Capital agreed to acquire its MDA subsidiary for approximately $765M.
Frazier noted that Maxar’s earth intelligence business has experienced growth with the addition of services focused on satellite-based data analysis and recognized the work opportunities that machine learning, artificial intelligence and other technologies bring to the company.
