BWX Technologies has named Toby Smith as senior vice president and general counsel, succeeding Ronald Whitford, who will remain in an advisory capacity until early 2026.
Smith brings to the role over two decades of experience in corporate law and international trade compliance.
Before joining BWXT, he spent over 11 years at Otis Elevator, where he most recently served as senior vice president and corporate secretary. In the said role, he managed corporate governance and regulatory compliance with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the New York Stock Exchange. He also oversaw corporate sustainability and internal audit operations.
Earlier in his career, Smith was with United Technologies Corp., now RTX. He held legal leadership positions at UTC Aerospace Systems and UTC Climate, Controls and Security.
He began his career as a litigation associate at Hogan & Hartson. He received a bachelor’s degree in foreign languages and government from Hamilton College and earned his juris doctor from Georgetown Law.
“Toby’s broad and global experience will serve BWXT well as we continue to invest for growth and expand our capabilities and geographic footprint,” said Rex Geveden, president and CEO of BWXT. “His background consistently demonstrates a penchant for continuous improvement and drive for results, which are cornerstones for the cultural change we are driving at BWXT.”
