Tactical Air Support will reconfigure and modernize Northrop Grumman-built (NYSE: NOC) F-5 aircraft to meet the requirements of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps under a five-year, $265.3 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract.
The Department of Defense said Friday 16 F-5E and six F-5F Tiger II fighter jets will be transformed from the current Swiss military setup into a Navy/Marine Corps N+/F+ configuration.
Aside from modification and block upgrade efforts, Tactical Air will provide non-recurring engineering and inspection support services as well as eight block upgrade retrofits for existing aircraft.
The majority of contract work will be done in Emen, Switzerland, and the company’s site in Jacksonville, Florida, through June 2027. Individual orders will determine contract funding upon issuance.
The Naval Air Warfare Aviation Division awarded the contract, which was not competitively procured.
The F-5E/F jets were bought from Switzerland. The tactical fighter series is employed by several U.S. and international militaries, with the Navy and Air Force leveraging it for aerial combat training exercises.
