Symantec’s Chris Townsend: Cyber Investments Should be Aligned With Critical Data Protection

Chris Townsend, vice president of federal business at Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC), has said government agencies should ensure that investments in cybersecurity infrastructure are aligned with efforts to protect critical data from cyber threats.

Townsend wrote that agencies should establish a platform that works to offer a standardized approach to data security both in cloud and on-premises environments.

œWe need to tie security policy to individual employees, no matter where they are or what device they are using, he added.

He cited how the 2015 cybersecurity sprint and the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation program helped agencies build up their cybersecurity postures.

Townsend also mentioned President Donald Trump™s cybersecurity executive order and its role in advancing information technology modernization and the National Institute of Standards and Technology™s Cybersecurity Framework.

He called on agencies to create risk mitigation strategies and security plans that aim to safeguard critical information.
