The State Department is looking to introduce a potential $5B multiple-award contract to combine spending on information technology products, Bloomberg Government reported Friday.
The department’s information resource management has begun to seek information on small businesses that could take part in the contract, contract ceiling and the number of awards that could be issued through the planned contract vehicle.
According to the request for information, the department plans to centralize its IT acquisition activities to facilitate regular updates of its IT infrastructure to help counter cyber threats.
The State Department has obligated nearly $2.5B on IT hardware and related products since fiscal year 2016 using several contract vehicles, including NASA’s Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement V and General Services Administration’s IT Schedule 70. Its top IT contractors since FY 2016 include Carahsoft Technology, AT&T (NYSE: T), Mythics and CDW (Nasdaq: CDW).
BGOV said it expects the department to issue a draft solicitation as soon as July.
