State Dept Clears Ukraine's $600M Mk VI Patrol Boat Procurement Request

Ukraine has asked to buy Mark VI Patrol Boats through a potential $600M foreign military sales transaction cleared by the State Department to address the country’s requirement for a fast and short-range vessel platform.

Safe Boats International will be the principal contractor for the proposed sale of 16 Mk VI boats along with associated equipment such as MK44 cannons, electro-optical/infrared radars, MSI Seahawk A2 gun systems, long-range acoustic devices and identification friend or foe systems., the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday.

Bremerton, Wash.-based Safe Boats would also provide engineering, logistics and training support as part of the FMS agreement.

Goals of the proposed sale include helping Ukraine defend its territorial waters and other maritime assets.

The Mk VI boat is designed to support friendly and coalition forces’ patrol missions in shallow littoral areas and less-sheltered open water. U.S. Navy Expeditionary Combat Command uses the platform as part of its combatant craft fleet.
