State Department Approves $6B Sale of Modernized Main Battle Tanks, Equipment to Poland

The State Department has approved Poland’s request to buy 250 M1A2 SEPv3 main battle tanks, manufactured by General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), through an approximately $6 billion foreign military sales agreement.

Pieces of equipment covered by the FMS package include 250 AN/VLQ-12 counter-improvised explosive device systems, 26 M88A2 Hercules combat recovery vehicles, 276 M2 .50-caliber machine guns, 500 M240C 7.62mm machine guns and 15 AGT1500 gas turbine engines, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday.

Poland also wants to procure target practice multipurpose projectiles, high explosive anti-tank cartridges, multipurpose tracers, GPS receivers, communications systems and spare and repair parts.

General Dynamics’ land systems business, BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX), Leonardo DRS and Honeywell Aerospace will serve as principal contractors for the proposed sale.

Twenty-two U.S. government representatives and 52 contractor representatives will travel to Poland to provide technical, engineering, training and logistics support services once the FMS deal is implemented.
