Kuwait seeks to procure a medium-range air defense system from the U.S. government through a potential $3 billion foreign military sales transaction cleared by the State Department.
Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX), which produces the National Advanced Surface-To-Air Missile System in partnership with Norwegian company Kongsberg, will be the main contractor on the proposed NASAMS sale, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency Thursday.
The system will consist of Sentinel radars, Fire Distribution Centers, Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles and associated equipment.
As the principal contractor, Raytheon’s missiles and defense business could enter an offset agreement with the buyer, DSCA noted.
Kuwait’s FMS request calls for the deployment of six contractor representatives to the country for approximately three years to provide equipment support services.
The foreign buyer will implement the system to guard its borders, energy infrastructure, armed forces and citizens against regional threats.
