The State Department has approved the government of Saudi Arabia’s request to procure communications and navigation terminals and associated equipment from the U.S. government under a potential $101.1 million foreign military sales agreement.
Saudi Arabia has asked to buy 63 Multifunctional Information Distribution System-Low Volume Terminal Block Upgrade 2 terminals, 229 MIDS Joint Tactical Radio Systems and 124 MIDS-LVT BU2 retrofit kits, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday.
The FMS deal also includes TacNet tactical radios, low-volume terminal cryptographic modules, communications equipment and related engineering, technical and logistics support services.
Once completed, the transaction will add to a previously implemented FMS case worth $12.6 million that covers the provision of 35 MIDS JTRS and 24 MIDS-LVT BU2 retrofit kits.
DSCA noted that Saudi Arabia will use the requested defense equipment to enhance its surveillance capability against regional threats, strengthen its homeland defense and improve interoperability with the U.S. and allies.
