State Department OKs Netherlands’ $678M FMS Request for AMRAAM-Extended Range Systems

The State Department has approved a potential $678 million foreign military sale request of the government of the Netherlands to procure Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles-Extended Range and related equipment.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday the Netherlands asked to buy 174 AMRAAM-ER, four AMRAAM-C8 guidance sections as well as missile containers, load trainers, control section spares and support equipment.

RTX (NYSE: RTX) will serve as the principal contractor on the possible FMS, which also covers a range of logistics, engineering and support services.

The Netherlands seeks to enhance its air defense capability and contribution to integrated air and missile defense of NATO through the missile and equipment acquisition.

DSCA has notified Congress of the potential FMS.

The AMRAAM-Extended Range is a ground-launched missile designed to intercept targets at longer distances and higher altitudes. It features a bigger rocket motor and optimized flight control algorithms.
