State Department Gives Nod to Proposed $750M Howitzer Sale to Taiwan

The State Department has approved Taiwan’s request to buy medium self-propelled howitzer systems, manufactured by BAE Systems, and associated equipment from the U.S. government through a potential $750 million foreign military sales transaction.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S. asked to procure 40 155mm M109A6 Paladin artillery units in an FMS request aimed at modernizing the Taiwanese military’s howitzer fleet, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday.

The proposed sale also includes M88A2 Hercules recovery vehicles, M992A2 Field Artillery Ammunition Support Vehicles, precision guidance kits and advanced GPS receivers.

DSCA noted that the buyer and contractor will work to define an agreement via negotiations.
