The State Department has approved the request of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to continue receiving maintenance support services and related equipment for its helicopter fleet under a potential $500 million foreign military sale transaction.
The MSS contract supports the AH-64D/E, UH-60L, UH-60M, Schweizer 333 and Bell 406CS helicopters deployed by the Royal Saudi Land Forces Aviation Command and the continuation will also cover the upcoming CH-47F Chinook fleet, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday.
The vendor for the proposed sale is not yet identified but contract work includes aircraft simulator logistics, maintenance and technical support; repair and return management services; staff training and support; as well as other related activities.
Two U.S. government and 350 contractor representatives will be assigned to Saudi Arabia over a two-year period as part of the proposed transaction.
According to DSCA, the continuation of MSS services in support of rotary wing aircraft fleet and its component is aimed at boosting Saudi Arabia’s threat defense capability.
