State Department Clears Potential $2.8B Patriot Missile Sale to Spain

The State Department has approved the Spanish government’s request to buy Patriot missile systems and related equipment from the U.S. government under a potential $2.8 billion foreign military sales agreement.

Spain has requested to procure four Patriot Configuration-3+ modernized fire units consisting of radar sets, launching stations, engagement control stations, missile segment enhancement missiles, guidance enhanced missile missiles and electrical power plants, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday.

The potential FMS deal includes communications and test equipment, repair parts, spares, personnel training, technical documentation and publications, engineering, technical and logistics services.

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and RTX (NYSE: RTX) will serve as the principal contractors on the deal, which requires the deployment of government and contractor representatives to the European country.

DSCA noted that Spain will use the requested equipment to boost its missile defense capability, enhance national and territorial defense and improve interoperability with U.S. and allied forces.
