The State Department has approved a potential $2.53 billion foreign military sale of M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks and related equipment to the government of Romania.
The potential FMS deal includes 54 M1A2 System Enhancement Program version 3 vehicles, 54 M1A1 structures, four M88A2 Hercules combat recovery vehicles, four M1110 joint assault bridges, four M1150 assault breacher vehicles and four heavy assault scissor bridges, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday.
Romania also requested a number of M240C 7.62mm machine guns; AGT1500 gas turbine engines; 120mm M1147 High Explosive, Multipurpose, Tracer cartridges; and 120mm M1002 Target Practice Multipurpose, Tracer cartridges.
DSCA noted that the deal requires deploying 22 government and contractor representatives to Romania for up to five years to support equipment fielding and training.
