The government of Bulgaria asked to purchase four F-16 C units and four of the aircraft’s D variant to improve its capability to counter future and current threats by enabling its air force to field modern fighter jets in the Black Sea region, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Monday.
The proposed FMS transaction includes AN/APG-83 active electronically scanned array scalable agile beam radars, modular mission computers, embedded GPS inertial navigation systems, advanced medium range air-to-air missiles and other munitions.
Services to be provided in the deal include software support, contractor and government engineering and technical assistance, studies and surveys, design and construction support, facility management, technical documentation, program and logistics support services.
The proposed sale will require the deployment of U.S. contractor representatives to Bulgaria to support logistics and storage requirements for 36 months.
DSCA said it notified Congress of the possible deal Monday.
