The State Department approved a possible sale of Tomahawk weapon systems to the government of Japan, paving the way for the Defense Security Cooperation Agency to notify the U.S. Congress of the proposed $2.35 billion deal.
RTX (NYSE: RTX) will be the lead contractor for the sale, which includes the delivery of up to 200 Tomahawk Block IV All Up Rounds missiles, DSCA said Friday.
The Japanese government also ordered a maximum of 200 Tomahawk Block V AURs, 14 Tactical Tomahawk Weapon Control Systems and corresponding services for such products as well as the mission distribution software suite centers.
DSCA said the agreement is part of its efforts to strengthen allied security in the Indo-Pacific region amid growing threats.
