Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) and L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) have been awarded separate five-year, $500M contracts to develop anti-jam modems to support U.S. Space Force’s tactical satellite communications.
Each indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract covers research, development and production of next-generation protected tactical waveform modems, the Department of Defense said Friday.
The service branch’s Space and Missile Systems Center awarded an initial $37.6M delivery order to Raytheon and a $30.6M order to L3Harris.
SMC received two offers for IDIQs via a competitive acquisition process and will obligate $5.2M in fiscal 2020 R&D funds on each contract at the time of award.
Work will take place in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Utah through April 1, 2025.
