South Korea has requested to purchase CH-47F Chinook helicopters, and related equipment from the U.S. government under a $1.5 billion foreign military sales agreement approved by the State Department.
Boeing (NYSE: BA) will serve as the principal contractor on the possible transaction that includes 18 CH-47F helicopters, 42 T55-GA-714A engines, 22 common missile warning systems and 44 secure radios, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday.
The South Korean government also intends to buy radar warning systems, high-frequency airborne communications systems, identification friend or foe transponders, receiver systems, airborne receiver-transmitters and secure radios.
DSCA said the helicopters would support the international buyer’s medical evacuation, disaster relief, search and rescue and parachute drops.
The deal will not require the deployment of U.S. government and contractor representatives to South Korea.
