The company will also provide eight spare shipsets to SOCOM for the remanufactured rotary-wing military aircraft, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.
In a separate statement, Boeing said the modification brings to 30 the total number of MH-47G units the company is contracted to provide SOCOM.
The planemaker will perform the majority of work at a facility in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, and expects to start the delivery of the additional helicopters in 2023.
SOCOM is obligating the full contract modification amount to Boeing from the U.S. Army’s fiscal 2021 procurement and aircraft procurement funds, the Pentagon noted.
The command received its first modernized MH-47G, which is the special operations variant of the Chinook platform, in September 2020.
Boeing has delivered four Block II Chinooks to date.
