Snowflake to Acquire Crunchy Data, Bring Postgres to AI Data Cloud

Snowflake has revealed plans to acquire Crunchy Data, a company offering trusted open source Postgres technology and products, to bring its artificial intelligence-ready Snowflake Postgres to developers.

The AI Data Cloud company said Monday its planned acquisition of Crunchy Data, announced at the Snowflake Summit 2025, will integrate the enterprise-grade PostgreSQL database into the AI Data Cloud. This will enable developers to leverage the full power of Postgres while maintaining stringent governance, security and operational standards for AI-driven applications.

Accelerating AI Development and Deployment

Through the acquisition, enterprises in different industries could develop and deploy AI agents and applications with Snowflake Postgres, meeting the rising demand for secure Postgres capabilities. Snowflake Postgres will leverage Crunchy Data’s expertise in enterprise readiness within Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, or FedRAMP, compliant environments to bring its capabilities into Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud.

PostgreSQL remains the top database for developers, with 49 percent reporting they rely on it. Snowflake Postgres streamlines the development, deployment and scaling of AI-driven applications using Crunchy Data’s technology, built for rapid experimentation and the full lifecycle of enterprise workloads. Crunchy Data provides access to performance metrics, scaling capabilities and an easy-to-use interface.

Users of PostgreSQL, such as Blue Yonder and LandingAI, can utilize Snowflake Postgres to optimize operations, deliver faster and stay competitive.

“Today’s announcement of our proposed acquisition of Crunchy Data represents another reason why Snowflake is the ultimate destination for all enterprise data and AI needs,” said Vivek Raghunathan, SVP of Engineering at Snowflake. “We’re tackling a massive $350 billion market opportunity and a real need for our customers to bring Postgres to the Snowflake AI Data Cloud,” he added.

“We’re excited to join forces with Snowflake to provide their customers who already rely on Postgres the ability to run mission-critical regulated workloads with increased confidence and security on the Snowflake platform,” said Paul Laurence, co-founder of Crunchy Data.
