SAIC to Build, Test Navy Torpedo Fuel Storage Under $120M Contract; Josh Jackson Quoted

Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC) has received a $120 million contract from the U.S. Navy to provide MK 48 heavyweight torpedo fuel tanks to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center’s division in Keyport, Washington.

SAIC said Tuesday it will help the center address production, test and delivery targets for fuel storage configurations required by the Navy and foreign military sales clients.

The branch awarded the firm-fixed-price contract in October with a base performance period of 18 months plus four one-year options.

Josh Jackson, senior vice president of SAIC’s naval business unit, said the company will work over the next five years to provide the Navy practice and warshot heavyweight torpedoes.

The company handles the production of tailcone and afterbody components for the MK 48 Mod 7 system and manages data collection and testing of MK 54 lightweight torpedoes.

NUWC Keyport provides test, evaluation, deployment and maintenance support to the Navy’s undersea warfare technology projects.
