Vice Adm. Jon Hill, director of the Missile Defense Agency, has said the issuance of a formal solicitation notice for the development of a ground-based missile interceptor is “imminent," Defense News reported Thursday.
MDA delayed its request for proposals for the Next-Generation Interceptor program after an oversight council determined that requirements were very technical.
Hill said during the McAleese Defense Programs Conference in Washington, D.C., that the Joint Requirements Oversight Council plans to conduct another review next week.
“The RFP is not out as early as I would want it to be,” he said. “It kind of eats our time and moves us to the right, but that is okay. It’s important to get the requirements right, get the [request for offers] right and get the acquisition plan agreed to.”
Hill added that MDA worked with the Department of Defense undersecretary for research and engineering to review the agency's NGI procurement plans.
The agency is close to completing adjudication of comments, the report noted.
