India has approved a deal to buy six additional Boeing-built (NYSE: BA) Apache helicopters for approximately $654.6 million, Reuters reported Thursday.
Indias defense acquisition council on Thursday cleared the deal that also covers related equipment, spares, weapons, ammunition and training support.
The decision came nearly two years after the countrys cabinet gave the green light for the procurement of Apache attack aircraft and Chinook heavy-lift helicopters in a deal worth approximately $2.5 billion.
Boeing also announced plans in February to establish a defense business unit in India as part of the aircraft makers expansion efforts in the South Asian country.
