Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) has received a potential $1.5 billion indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to help the Missile Defense Agency operate and maintain two kinds of ballistic missile radar technology.
The Defense Departmentsaid Friday Raytheon’s integrated defense systems unit will continue to provide logistics support, transition and transfer, depot transition and sustaining engineering services for the Army Navy Transportable Radar Surveillance Model 2 and Sea-Based X-Band radar systems.
AN/TPY-2 is a component of the Ballistic Missile Defense System and designed to distinguish, detect and monitor ballistic missile activity.
SBX functions as the main payload on a semi-submersible platform built to support the BMD system’s ground-based midcourse defense phase.
DoD noted the follow-on IDIQ contract’s ordering period will commence Nov. 1, 2017 and run through Oct. 31, 2020.
The contract also contains four successive one-year option periods, the department added.
MDA obligated $1.2 million in fiscal 2017 research, development, test and evaluation funds at the time of award.
Work will occur in Woburn, Massachusetts, and various stateside and overseas locations.
