Raytheon Books $264M Contract Option to Manufacture Additional AIM-9X Block 2 Missiles

A Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX) subsidiary will manufacture 571 more Sidewinder infrared-tracking, short-range missiles under a $263.7 million production lot 23 contract modification for a U.S. Navy-led joint weapon procurement effort with the U.S. Air Force.

The award to Raytheon Missiles & Defense represents exercised options for the supply of AIM-9X Block II all-up rounds to the two service branches and foreign military sales customers, the Department of Defense said Friday.

Captive air training systems, containers, spares, related kits and support equipment are included in the modification award.

RMD will also conduct non-recurring engineering efforts for the Systems Improvement Program III transition to production activities.

The Pentagon expects the contract services to conclude in August 2026.

According to Raytheon, the Sidewinder’s Block II variant has updated electronics designed to enable lock-on-after-launch and beyond visual range engagements.
