Raytheon Awarded $279M Army Phalanx Weapon System Support Contract

The U.S. Army has awarded Raytheon a $279.2 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract to provide functional management support for the Land-based Phalanx Weapon System.

Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of July 7, 2030, the Department of Defense said. The Army Contracting Command, located at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity.

According to a sources sought notice for LPWS support, work involves logistics supportability development, contractor logistics support, and government furnished property accountability, management and maintenance.

The effort includes programmatic systems engineering, quality and configuration management, integration, test support, logistics, training, fielding, sustainment, and integrated product support of the implementation of the LPWS capability in areas of responsibility.

Phalanx Contracts Awarded to Raytheon

Raytheon has been providing Phalanx weapon system support for several years. In 2016, the company secured a $42.2 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to provide Phalanx design agent engineering and technical support services. The Navy also awarded the company a $398.6 million contract within the same year for design agent engineering and technical services for Phalanx Close-in Weapon System, SeaRAM and LPWS. In 2019, the Army awarded Raytheon a $205.2 million contract to support the weapon system designed to help identify and counter incoming rounds on land.

Phalanx is a key component of the Army’s counter-rocket platforms and defends against close-in threats through the use of an infrared sensor and computer-controlled search and detection tools.

The U.S. Navy installs the system on surface combatant vessels to defeat anti-ship missiles.
