What Are the LTAMDS Contract Details?
The Department of Defense said Thursday that work under the contract will be performed by the RTX business unit in Andover, Massachusetts, and is expected to be completed by March 31, 2030. The Army Contracting Command will obligate $254.6 million from the service’s fiscal 2026 other procurement funds at the time of award.
What Is LTAMDS?
LTAMDS is an advanced radar built to counter hypersonic weapons and other modern threats. It uses three antenna arrays to provide full 360-degree coverage and track multiple targets simultaneously. Designed for the Army’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense system, LTAMDS offers significantly greater power than the Patriot radar while remaining compatible with existing Patriot infrastructure.
Previous LTAMDS Contracts Awarded to Raytheon
The recent award builds on a $2.1 billion base contract that Raytheon received in August 2024 for low-rate initial production of the sensor. That previous contract was followed by a $1.7 billion contract modification in August 2025, bringing the total value of the effort to $3.8 billion.
