Poland to Acquire Raytheon's Patriot Integrated Air & Missile Defense System

Poland has issued a formal request to the U.S. government to acquire Raytheon‘s (NYSE: RTN) Patriot integrated air and missile defense system for an undisclosed amount.

Raytheon said Tuesday it will collaborate with Poland’s government and industry to help complete offset and industrial participation plans as part of the foreign military sales process.

“Poland’s formal request is an important milestone toward becoming the 6th NATO Patriot country and the 14th Patriot partner nation, ” said Wes Kremer, president of Raytheon’s integrated defense systems unit.

He added Patriot will work to support Poland against threats such as ballistic and cruise missiles and advanced aircraft and drones.

Antoni Macierewicz, Polish defense minister, said the proposed Patriot deal involves a total of eight missile batteries, AFP reported Tuesday.

The report said the potential sale could be worth $5.6 billion.

According to AFP, Macierewicz noted that Polish firms selected by the government would perform at least half of the work required in the program.

Raytheon said it has signed eight contracts and at least 30 letters of intent with Polish industry in support of the anticipated FMS agreement.
