Velez started his career in the U.S. Navy. After 15 years, he transitioned to the private sector as manager of systems engineering at Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC). He later became an associate at Booz Allen Hamilton (NYSE: BAH), managing programs on architectural framework for command, control, communications, computer and ISR to be used by the Naval Air Systems Command.
He returned to Northrop and served in various roles in the company’s enterprise engineering business for seven years. In 2016, he joined Boeing’s (NYSE: BA) intelligence and analytics group, where he was appointed VP and chief operating officer. Prior to Peraton, Velez was president of Praxis Engineering for almost three years.
Cathy Johnston
In addition to Velez’s announcement, Peraton also welcomed Cathy Johnston, former deputy director of intelligence at the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, to the company’s leadership team as VP of mission integration.
Johnston spent 12 years in government intelligence roles. She was national intelligence manager for East Asia at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence from January 2011 to September 2012. She also worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency as director for analysis.
In 2016, ODNI chose her as assistant director of national intelligence for systems and resource analysis. She stayed in the position for five years before becoming part of INDOPACOM.
