The Department of Defense and a nonprofit corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to move the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program forward, Nextgov reported Thursday.
Katie Arrington, chief information security officer in DoD’s acquisition office and a 2020 Wash100 awardee, confirmed the MOU between the Pentagon and the CMMC accreditation body during a webinar held Thursday.
Arrington said both parties collaborate virtually amid the COVID-19 pandemic and remain on track to implement contractor cybersecurity verification processes with authorized independent third-party assessment organizations.
The CMMC framework is designed to secure the defense supply chain and based on controls from the National Institute of Standards and Technology as well as the European Union, Australia and the U.K.
