Leidos has aligned its digital modernization capabilities to deliver faster, more secure and more resilient mission outcomes across federal and commercial markets, according to Paul Wilkinson, senior vice president and leader of the company’s digital modernization practice area.
In a recent video interview with Executive Mosaic’s Charles Lyons-Burt, Wilkinson described how the company’s digital modernization sector, established in early 2024, unifies efforts across cloud, cyber, artificial intelligence and enterprise IT to “deliver offerings to the market at scale.” He explained that the consolidation allows Leidos to strengthen coordination between teams and deliver mission-tailored solutions with “security built into everything that we do.”
How Does Leidos Bring Together Its Capabilities to Support Mission Outcomes?
Wilkinson said Leidos’ horizontal structure enables it to integrate digital capabilities seamlessly across agencies with common modernization challenges.
“We like to say that our practice area is the orchestrator of innovation,” he said. “By connecting expertise across our technology areas, we solve common problems for our customers in a way that has speed, agility and resilience at the core.”
He emphasized that Leidos’ approach begins with understanding customer missions and outcomes. By leveraging cross-practice collaboration, the company designs solutions that unify cloud-native architectures, zero trust security and data-sharing frameworks, all while enhancing user experience through human-centered design.
How Are Partnerships and Talent Accelerating Leidos’ Digital Modernization Strategy?
Wilkinson said that strategic partnerships with commercial technology providers allow Leidos to bring cutting-edge tools into the government ecosystem faster. For example, collaborations with hyperscalers and emerging technology firms like Second Front Systems are helping accelerate secure solution deployment through platforms such as Game Warden, which can achieve authority to operate “in weeks and months instead of years.”
He also highlighted talent development as central to sustaining digital resilience. Leidos’ community of practice model, he said, fosters “intentional internal mobility” and continuous upskilling. The initiative has improved retention and engagement while positioning the company as a destination for top technical talent eager to contribute to national security and government innovation.
Looking Ahead: Cybersecurity and Adaptability
As agencies confront evolving global challenges, Wilkinson advised leaders to focus on proactive digital transformation centered on cybersecurity and adaptability. He underscored the importance of embedding zero trust across systems and ensuring AI adoption remains trusted and mission-aligned.
“Without the talent, none of this is really going to happen,” Wilkinson said, calling workforce development the foundation of long-term mission success.
