The U.S. Air Force has awarded Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) a $302M contract to continue providing modification and sustainment support for the military branch's E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System fleet.
Northrop said Thursday it will implement a Total System Support Responsibility program for the Joint STARS aircraft used to help the warfighter obtain battlespace situational awareness in real time and conduct wide-area target search missions.
JSTARS is built with battle management and synthetic aperture radar systems designed to recognize surface targets at a standoff distance.
Globally, combatant commands have recorded more than 150K mission hours with the aircraft.
