Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has awarded Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) a potential $104 million subcontract to update the ground controls of the U.S. Air Force™s RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aerial system.
Raytheon will equip the mission control stations for the Northrop-built UAS with open architecture that will work to facilitate the addition of new platforms and mission payloads by the service branch, the company said Monday.
Raytheon will also provide cybersecurity platforms and set up building-based mission control facilities at Beale Air Force Base in California and Grand Forks AFB in North Dakota under the contract.
Global Hawk is designed to fly at a maximum altitude of 60, 000 feet for at least 34 hours and has moving target indicator and signals intelligence sensors that work to support intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
